Dear Students & Parents,
It’s my pleasure to welcome you to fifth grade! This year promises to be an exciting year with positive and successful experiences. You will develop more independence along with greater responsibilities in preparation for your transition to middle school.
I am a Raleigh native who went to school in Wake County. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from North Carolina State University. (Go Pack!) My K-6 license is from Meredith College. I have taught first, second, and fifth grade. I have also been a Reading Resource Teacher, ESL Teacher, and Intervention Teacher. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband and two boys. I have been married for 22 years to my wonderful husband. My oldest son is at senior at Thales Academy and my youngest is in 7th grade at Heritage Middle. I enjoy watching Carson and Owen at their basketball, football games and track events. I also enjoy running 5Ks, shopping, reading , NCSU sports, and traveling. Hawaii and Europe are two of my favorite places.
I look forward to getting to know all of my students and their families. I believe that every child is unique and has special talents. My job is to provide experiences in an atmosphere in which the talents will be nurtured and new talents will be acquired and encouraged. I firmly believe hard work and dedication from the student, teacher, and parent will lead to true success in the classroom.
Your fifth grade year will include a lot of opportunities that are available to you for the first time. With new independence, you will have new opportunities. Fifth graders enjoy an exciting field trip, Safety Patrol, Falcon News Network, Feed the Bin, a kickball game, and of course a special graduation at the end of the year.
We hope that you are as excited as we are to begin a new year. I can’t wait to get to know you and work with you this year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Clayton
